Can't afford it? Think again.

If there is a brand that you truly love, a brand that you constantly just drool over, a brand of clothing that you only wish you could own - well... YOU CAN! Look out for sample sales. Everything was 70% off at the Theory/Helmut Lang sample sale I went to yesterday. I finally bought things that I have been eyeing for a while, but could not afford that were thankfully there!

I managed to snag a ticket last minute! Ticket? For what you may ask. This ticket allowed me to be one of the very first customers at the sample sale because it was not yet open to the public. Without this ticket, I would have had to wait it out until it was open to everyone.

If you're wondering how I got these tickets, I got them off Gilt Groupe. If you have not yet heard about this website, get on it! All you have to do is sign up (for free of course) at and you will gain access to tons of discounts off designer brands.

But sample sales are not the only way to save on designer names. ("the ultimate hook-up for the fashion obsessed") is an online retailer that sells designer clothing at discount prices as well as The Outnet is considered Net-a-porter's online fashion outlet. There are definitely more out there, so I will post an updated list of discounted retailers as well as a list of popular online retailers on where to buy the best designer brands out there in a later post!

Love something? Not your size? Tailor it!

So I went to the tailor today to pick up my jeans that I had just bought from Helmut Lang. Being that I am short and petite, most of my pants need to be hemmed. I feel the need to blog about this because many times people fail to realize that clothes can be tailored!

How many times have you gone shopping and you found something you absolutely love, but they don't have your size? This happens A LOT! But if you LOVE it, tailor it! The Helmut Lang jeans I bought are now one of my favorite pairs! I have even gotten clothes altered that look nothing like what it looked like when I first bought it. Get creative!

You can do more than you think with your clothes. You can get pants hemmed or sleeves hemmed. You can get clothes taken in if something is too big. And believe it or not, you can even get clothes taken out if they are too small depending on how much material there is.

So remember, if you absolutely love something, (as my boyfriend would say, if it's a home run) take it to your tailor!

Side note:  If your clothes say to get them dry cleaned, dry clean them! You will most likely ruin a piece of clothing if it says to get it dry cleaned and you don't. Most of the time, there are directions for how to wash your clothes for a reason. Especially if it's an expensive piece, read the directions and follow them or else you will end up with a shrunken shirt or a faded color.

Now that we have gotten past what I think are some of the most important things to know when it comes to fashion, (Chanel, 10 Staples, The Color Black, and Tailoring) we can move on to what's in Fashion NOW!

When In Doubt, Wear Black

Did you notice a common theme in the Top 10 Closet Staples?

The color black, of course!

Because it never goes out of style; it is timeless; it is classic; it is versatile (all of what the top 10 staples are). But it can also be elegant; or simply just a comfortable color for you to wear.

Black is fashion's favorite color. Nothing is really ever "THE New Black" because black is always apparent in fashion, but for seasons, the chosen color is "THE New Black" because it is the staple color that works with every piece for that specific collection.

Of course everyone needs some color in their wardrobe, but remember, when in doubt, wear black!
